Minister of Transport Ignores the Deteriorating Roads… That Threaten Travelers’ Lives!

Despite repeated complaints from citizens and the rising number of road accident victims due to the crumbling infrastructure, the Minister of Transport continues to blatantly ignore the catastrophic state of the national road network.

From Nouakchott to the interior cities, potholes and cracks are scattered across the roads, turning some routes into death traps—claiming lives and destroying vehicles.

The road linking Nouakchott to Akjoujt, the road to Rosso, and the Nouakchott–Aleg axis have become glaring examples of neglect and lack of maintenance. Despite repeated government promises to fix the roads, citizens have seen nothing but official statements and photo-ops.

While the ministry busies itself with billion-ouguiya contracts and ceremonial ribbon-cuttings, the public is left wondering:
Who is responsible for this chaos? And why is no one held accountable?

Transport and infrastructure experts confirm that poor planning, corrupt contracting, and substandard execution have all contributed to turning our roads into ticking time bombs—while the issue is buried beneath layers of official indifference.

In response, citizens are demanding an independent investigative committee, public disclosure of contract details and contractors, and a clear link between responsibility and accountability.

So, will the Minister of Transport finally act?
Or will citizens’ lives continue to hold no value in the government’s calculations?
