Shusha Forum Discusses “Media Literacy in the Digital Age”

The third edition of the Shusha Global Media Forum 2025 kicked off today, Sunday, with the opening of its first discussion session under the theme: “Innovative Approaches: Media Literacy in the Digital Age.”

The session was inaugurated by Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration. In his opening remarks, he highlighted the impact of artificial intelligence on media, stressing that “it is no longer possible to think of media without technology.”

Hajiyev pointed out that traditional media, as we once knew it, is now undergoing a profound transformation due to the advancement of digital technologies. He stated, “In the past, we debated the influence of social media on traditional media; today, the impact of artificial intelligence on the media landscape has become a central and unavoidable topic.”

Participants in the forum emphasized the need for strong media literacy, the importance of enhancing the ability to use modern technologies correctly, helping people distinguish between accurate and misleading information, and preventing manipulation and the spread of fake news.

During the discussion, it was reaffirmed that promoting media literacy among the public, adopting innovative methods, and building mutual trust in a complex media environment are essential steps to confront the new realities imposed by AI, particularly in the production and dissemination of disinformation—one of the most pressing challenges facing modern media.
